International business: Experiencing new cultures
I have always dreamed of traveling the world, and experiencing new people and cultures. It has been something that I planned on doing at some point in my life, but I never imagined that I could possibly be doing it for a job.
International business is my true passion, and is the career path that I hope to take soon after graduation. Traveling to new countries and experiencing the local customs and practices, is one of my favorite ways to spend my time. Nothing can compare to the moment when you first step off a plane in a foreign land. The new sights and smells take over your senses, and you can't help but feel a rush of excitement, as you try to figure out what you want to experience first, in this new, unexplored land. With a career in international business, I can have this experience all the time, and most importantly, I will be getting paid to do it.
Yes, I know money isn't everything, but it sure would be nice to save a few bucks on traveling expenses!
Many people in the business world travel internationally on a regular basis, as a requirement for their occupations. Growing up, my father has always had a career in international business, and has experienced more cultures than I can count. My father is out of the country more than half of the time, and I always jokingly say "I wonder what country Dad will be in today?" He travels so frequently, that even I have to double check with him three times before I fly home to visit, because I am unsure if he will be in the states or not. I utilize the world clock on my iPhone more Ethan most people, as I try to keep up with my dad's location (just because its 4pm here, doesn't mean its 4pm where ever he is, and no one likes being woken up out of their sleep, even fathers!) While many would find this type of life style difficult, I am green with envy.
What sounds more exciting, a business meeting at a local French restaurant, or a business meeting at an authentic French restaurant in Paris? I'm sure that you, like myself would prefer to have the real deal. This type of fast-paced, global traveling life style is possible in the world of business.
Until then, I will just have to pay for my vacations like the rest of the world. Please enjoy photos and videos from some of my travels!

This is amazing. I am glad you shared some of the places you have been in life. I myself want to travel for work as well and I am envious of those in my company who get paid to do such. I often tell my boss that I want to get on the path to obtain the job they have. I am as you are right now wanting to travel but definitely having to spend my own large sum of money in order to make those dreams a reality. I look forward to reading more of your blogs.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteIt would be amazing if we could all be paid to travel! I see it as one of the perks of having a career that requires travel.
I love your passion for traveling. I definitely understand as well. Traveling holds a special place in my heart, and I love going to a new place. What has been your favorite trip thus far, and where is your dream place to go?? I love the pictures you shared!! Your passion for traveling really flowed through this post, and I know you will go far with it. It is also great that you have your dad as a resource for traveling, since he knows the ins and outs of international travel.
ReplyDeleteHello Tyler!
DeleteMy favorite trip by far was Jamaica! The beaches were BEAUTIFUL and the Jamaican art was breathtaking. I had so many pictures to choose from, it was so hard to make a decision for this post. I'm an artist myself, so I'm a sucker for hand crafted artifacts.
In the future I'd love to travel to Japan. My father goes for business several times a year, however , I haven't been able to convince him to take me with him yet! Hopefully, after my MBA I will be able to explore more countries!
I love travelling too, Susan, and I would love the concept of traveling internationally on behalf of business. I am concerned, however, with the thought of having a family and being away for extended periods of time. I don't have kids yet, so that isn't as much a problem. But in your experience, are travel expenses for significant others reimbursed on company expense as well? How does family fit into traveling?
ReplyDeleteHi Russell!
DeleteAs of now, I am not sure how companies factor in travel expenses for significant others or family members. Unfortunately, I think most of the time you would have to pay out of pocket. I will look into this topic in more detail, as I feel this may be a great subject for a future post! My family travels during the summer and winter months, so sadly we can't put this on the company account! Poor dad has to foot the bill...
I do not plan on having children, however I have three dogs and a cat (they're my fur babies) and leaving them is the most difficult aspect of my future career. Growing up, my father was gone frequently ( as he still is) on business trips, and we have never accompanied him on any of said trips. So, the negative side of having an international business career, is that you will be away from your family quite frequently.
Traveling for work would be the dream job for me! I, too, enjoy nothing more than visiting somewhere I have never been and immersing myself in the culture. I studied abroad in Jamaica one summer and did not want to leave such a unique and wonderful place. I love all of the photos of where you have been, and hope to hear more about the places you will go!
ReplyDeleteHello Kelli!
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the post. It seems as if we have many things in common. I will definitely include more traveling in future posts.
